The North Hertfordshire Liberal Democrats

We are the champions for liberal values across North Hertfordshire. Locally, we will use our position on the District and County councils to deliver meaningful and progressive change on behalf of residents. Nationally, we want to build a fairer society, but also keep the economy strong and secure. Internationally we want the UK to remain engaged in Europe, and to lead the response to global challenges like climate change. If you share our values and objectives, please give us your support. (NB. This site only covers North Herts. If you live in Stevenage, please visit www.stevenagelibdems.org.uk).

We believe it's important to communicate with local residents all year round, not just at election times. That's why our local campaigners work harder than any of the other parties to produce and deliver publications like the ones below. Party Reform

This month we received a report on progress against the Thornhill Report and we felt that the party was making good progress on some of the key points raised.

Whilst there is still much to do, there is a feeling that what we are setting in place will be good for the future. The Party is improving its ability to work across different parts of itself (HQ, ALDC, the States and Regions) and, despite the challenge of Coronavirus, is ploughing on with the reforms necessary to elect more Liberal Democrats.

Our Party is going through a period of change. The General Election Review was one of the reviews commissioned by the Party, to look at how we organise ourselves for elections and how we can do things better.

The Party has also asked for a review of Party organisations - known as AOs, Associated Organisations and SAOs, Specified Associated Organisations. These are organisations in the Party that cover everything, from Green Liberal Democrats to Liberal Democrat Women and everything in between. If you are a member of one of the Party's organisations, then this survey is for you. We want your views both on the support the Party gives to your organisation and what changes can and should be made.

This weekend would have been Manchester Pride and Pride Cymru. While we're not able to get together in person this year, LGBT+LD, Manchester Lib Dems and Welsh Lib Dems would love you to join us for our own Pride Inside - open to Lib Dem members across the country.

We will be hosting a panel discussion at 2PM on the topic of winning back trust amongst LGBT+ voters. Our panel will include a series of LGBT+ candidates, representatives and experts. We would love to hear your questions and thoughts.

His death rocked the world. It sparked overwhelmingly peaceful Black Lives Matter protests. It demanded of all of us that we look at what we can do to tackle racial injustice.

And the Liberal Democrats are no exception.

Over the past three months, we have stepped up our efforts to combat racism - whether conscious or unconscious, individual or institutional - wherever we find it.

The LDHQ Campaigns & Elections Team are running a rolling programme of bulk-buy deals on literature and Royal Mail door-to-door delivery.

Here's info below about the new phase we're offering.

Why opt in to the bulk-buy deal?

    • It's a process that you're hand-held throughout - meaning you do not have to deal directly with Royal Mail or the Printers
    • It's often (though not always) cheaper as we're ordering in bulk
    • As we offer door-to-door postage, it allows a greater degree of flexibility for seats without deliverers in the current climate

When I ran to be the Liberal Democrat candidate for North East Fife, I knew what I was getting into. In the 2017 election, my party had missed out on winning the seat by just two votes, making this quiet, rural, coastal constituency the most marginal in the country. While I wasn't necessarily expecting another election to come along as soon as 2019, I was expecting a very competitive race.

In a bid to raise awareness of those excluded, we asked members of the public to share their stories with us.

These individuals have lost their livelihoods overnight as a result of the coronavirus crisis and are entirely excluded from the Government's financial support measures.

Here's what they had to say:

As Liberal Democrats, we've always looked to the future with hope to build a better world. When looking past the direct impact of the Coronavirus crisis, we should welcome the unprecedented opportunity to change society radically for the future.

That's exactly what PolicyLab users have done since the launch of our new member engagement forum.
